Session 2 – Naval Engineering
Dates: April 4th, 18th, 25th, and May 2nd
Time: 12:30 – 3:30
Ages: 10 and up
$150
Description: Learn why some boat designs use one hull or two. How does sail area compare to boat speed and why? This session will compare boat designs in races the students design. They will take measurements from the sail and do mathematical calculations, using both model boats and boats they will sail. The class includes time on the water learning to sail and apply the concepts from the class.

Classes are broken into time on the water and time in the boathouse questioning and problem solving. All classes are held at Lenape Park East in the Boathouse by the Lighthouse in Mays Landing. All materials are provided including boats and lifejackets. Students should dress to be outside.
All classes will be held rain or shine. There must be a minimum of five students registered and paid in full to hold the session. Please register on our website at www.just-sailing.org all checks can be mailed with the attached participation form to Just-Sailing P.O. Box 498 Somers Point, NJ 08244

Session 1 – Navigate your way to open water!
Dates: March 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th
Time: 12:30 pm – 3:30pm
Ages: 10 and up
$150
Description: Students will learn the rules for navigating US waterways and learn to chart a course down the Great Egg Harbor River to the Atlantic Ocean using local charts. Each class includes time on the water learning to sail, parts of the boat, and points of sail. Using mathematics to calculate distance, rate, and speed students will be able to predict arrival times. They will use science to calculate wind speed and weather patterns. The class includes time on the water learning to sail and apply the concepts from the class.
